Sensory tents, parent FAQ

What is a sensory tent?+

A sensory tent is an enclosed play space designed to help children regulate, softer light inside, muted sound, and a clear physical boundary that says 'this is my calm place'. Our Sensory Spaces dens are made by Podsplay from a printed polyester jacket over an enclosed pop-up fibreglass frame, with a light-diffusing lining, a colour-changing sensory light and a Bluetooth speaker, so a child can duck in, breathe out, and come back when they're ready.

Are sensory tents good for children with autism or SPD?+

Many families use them exactly that way. Occupational therapists often recommend a dedicated 'low-stimulus zone' at home, and an enclosed tent gives a child predictable, portable control over their surroundings. Every child is different, a portable den suits some, a roomier inflatable sensory tent suits others, so we've written a size guide on the Sensory Spaces collection page.

What's the difference between a inflatable sensory tent and a den?+

Inflatable Sensory Tents are our largest size, a 150 cm cube with room for two children to sit up, read and play, and they live permanently in a bedroom or playroom. Dens are the portable size, a 120 cm cube weighing under 2 kg complete, packing into a padded backpack for holidays, grandparents' houses and sensory breaks at school. Both share the same fabric, pop-up frame, sensory light, Bluetooth speaker and safety spec.

Are they safe? What certifications do they carry?+

Yes. Every Podsplay den is UKCA/CE-marked and tested to EN71 parts 1, 2 and 3, with BS 5852 flame-retardant fabrics, a fully enclosed fibreglass frame and low-voltage USB electronics. Full paperwork is available on request. (Our Cosy Corner cotton teepees are certified separately, OEKO-TEX cotton on pine, no electronics.)

How quickly will it arrive?+

Sensory tents ship directly from the Podsplay workshop. Most orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days on a tracked courier and most UK mainland addresses receive them within 2–4 working days after dispatch. Free UK delivery over £50.

Genuine, safety-tested stock

Every sensory tent we sell is a genuine original, never a copy, always with the paperwork.

Who makes the Sensory Spaces dens?

Our Sensory Spaces range is made by Podsplay, the original designer of the pop-up sensory tent. Play Tents Ltd buys direct from them, never from marketplaces, so every den is a genuine original and ships with its own EN71 safety paperwork, not a lookalike copy.

What are the sensory tents made from?

A pre-tensioned fibreglass pop-up frame inside sealed fabric sleeves, a dye-sublimated polyester themed jacket, a light-diffusing or blackout inner lining, and a reinforced non-slip PE base. There is no cotton and no pine in this range, that is the Cosy Corner teepees.

Are they safe? What certifications do they carry?

Every Podsplay den is tested to EN71 parts 1, 2 and 3 and the fabrics meet BS 5852 flame retardancy. The frame is fully enclosed, so there are no exposed poles or sharp parts. The sensory light and Bluetooth speaker are low-voltage, USB-rechargeable and carry CE and UKCA marks. Recommended for age 3+.

How is a Sensory Spaces order dispatched?

Sensory tents are shipped directly from the Podsplay workshop on a tracked courier service. Most orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days and most UK mainland addresses receive them within 2–4 working days after dispatch. Free UK delivery over £50.

How do I clean a sensory tent?

Spot clean the jacket with a damp cloth and mild soap for day-to-day marks. For a deeper clean, unzip the jacket from the frame and machine wash cold (30°C) on a delicate cycle, then air dry, never tumble dry, iron or bleach. The Inflatable Sensory Tent's memory-foam mat has a removable 30°C-washable cover. Wipe the frame dry.

What is your returns policy on sensory tents?

14 days from delivery, unused and in the original packaging, with the themed jacket and electronics included. Returns go back to the Podsplay workshop, so message us first and we'll send the correct return label rather than the Cosy Corner address. Manufacturing defects are covered for 12 months.
